RIP Carrie Fisher
On Tuesday, December 27, legendary actress Carrie Fisher, 60, was found dead, drowned in moonlight and strangled by her own bra.I'll make this as short as I can...Growing up in the 80's and 90's, there weren't a whole lot of strong female characters in popular television or movies. Women were prevalent, but a true "strong" woman character who could sit at the same table with their male counterparts seemed in short supply. The main outlier to this, for me, was Leia Organa. The first time we see her, she's in the face of one of the most powerful Sith Lords to have walked the Star Wars galaxy. We don't know this at the time, of course, but as the movies progress and the scope of his atrocities become apparent, you start to really "get" just how much courage it took for her to look into that mask and essentially tell him to "fuck off".For me, the loss of that character hits harder than the death of the actor, though the more I read up on her, the more I realize that I missed an opportunity to learn from someone great while I still had a chance to meet her. I have a lot of reading to do now that I've been exposed Carrie Fisher's actual wit and intelligence. I'm looking forward to it, though it'll be tinged with sadness.Anyway... to wherever death by bra takes you, I wish you fair travels Ms. Fisher.May the Force be with you.
